1. What is NuNet's Managed Email Service?

There are two ways you can check your E-mail. The first is by using any standard E-mail client configured to access your account via POP3 or IMAP. The second method of checking your E-mail is via a web page on any Internet connected computer, anywhere.

2. What is the difference between POP3 and IMAP?

There are two main methods for delivering electronic mail. One method, called Post Office Protocol (POP3), moves your email (on demand) from the central inbox on the E-mail server to a single desktop computer. When you start a POP3 email program (for example, Outlook Express), all the mail in your inbox is transferred to your desktop computer. Once that mail is forwarded, it is usually deleted from the server, and the connection between the mail server and your desktop computer is closed.

In contrast, IMAP, the protocol uses a client-server model, in which your mail program is a client that interacts throughout a mail session with your inbox on a computer known as the mail server.

The advantages of POP3 include:

  • Minimum use of connect time; an issue if you pay by the minute
  • Minimum use of server resources
  • More software is currently available for POP3 than for IMAP

On the other hand, IMAP has even more compelling advantages over POP3 these include:

  • Access to your inbox from any location
  • Access to your inbox from different computers
  • Faster start-up time, as only message headings are transferred initially
  • Optimization for low-speed links
  • Ability to handle very large messages (e.g., MIME messages)
  • Ability to fetch individual MIME attachments
  • Ability to access non-email information (e.g., Netnews)

In addition, IMAP will allow you to keep the same set of folders including your inbox synchronized no matter if you are checking your E-mail from work, from home, or from a remote location.

3. What type of features are included in your E-mail Accounts Control Panel?

The control panel includes features such as create/delete E-mail accounts, change passwords, aliases, forwards, auto-responders, and company internal mailing lists. You can also customize domain and individual account anti-spam measures. It can be access through any web browser.

4. What happens if I exceed my quota?

In most cases, your account will allow you to exceed your paid storage quota on the E-mail server. If you exceed your quota, it is likely that a message will popup on your screen to notify you that you have exceeded your quota and you are likely to incur an additional charge for the additional storage used. Check your pricing plan to determine the costs for additional storage or delete mail and files from the server in order to free up more disk space.

5. What can the mail administrator control?

The mail administrator can add and delete E-mail addresses at will, create mailing lists, customize anti-spam rules on a domain wide basis. The administrator will have full control over all of your domain mail needs all through a simple web page with full online help files.

6. How do you calculate my bill?

Monthly Billing Customers - On a monthly basis, we will compare your pricing plan to your actual E-mail storage usage and data transfer and determine your costs for that month. If your usage or data transfer is below that amount of storage/transfer provided in your base plan, no additional charges will be processed. If your storage usage or data transfer is greater than your base plan amount, an additional charge is calculated based on the additional increments of storage space needed to accommodate for your storage usage for the month. A new calculation is performed every month to determine the billing total for that month while following the current pricing chart.
